There are many types of carpet tiles available. They tend to fall into 3 categories, tufted loop or tufted structured loop pile, tufted cut pile, a combination of the above.
Loop pile tiles provide low to medium pile height with heavy duty wear & design features.
Cut pile tiles provide a much higher, softer pile with design features & colours.
A combination tile & some of the newer designer tiles can provide some very pleasing effects at little, if not any, extra expense than the norm.
